VIR Textiles nace a principios de 2014 con la idea de crear productos únicos tejidos a mano en telar de pedal de una forma artesanal. Al empezar a tejer, me di cuenta de las cosas hermosas que se podían lograr con esta técnica y no pude evitar complementarla con otras para crear productos bonitos, duraderos y cómodos que tanta falta nos hacen en nuestros hogares e indumentaria.

 

Estoy convencida de que todo lo hecho a mano -con cariño, dedicación y cuidado- luce más, y es portador de una energía que se transmite. Para mí, tejer es una especie de meditación, donde me olvido del resto del mundo y creo una conexión especial con los hilos y el telar. Mi momento favorito es cuando desmonto el telar y veo el resultado final de la tela. ¡Es una sensación increíble haber logrado algo tan hermoso con mis propias manos!

 

Yo soy las manos detrás de VIR Textiles. Mi nombre es Virginia Goday, soy uruguaya, y hace ya algunos años dejé de lado mi carrera en Economía para seguir un sueño y dedicarme al diseño y la artesanía. Cursé diferentes diplomados en diseño de interiores y diseño textil, uno de ellos en la Escuela de Diseño del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes de la Ciudad de México donde me enamoré del telar. Desde entonces no he parado de tejer... El telar y yo mantenemos una relación sana, estable y duradera. 

 

Hace 10 años me fui de mi país natal y luego de varias idas y vueltas, elegí volver a mis raíces e instalar el taller de VIR Textiles en tierras uruguayas. 

 

Este proyecto es mi granito de arena para lograr un mundo más consciente, más amable con el medio ambiente y más amoroso.

VIR Textiles was born in 2014 with the idea of creating unique handwoven products using a colonial loom. As I started weaving, I realised all the beautiful things that could be done with this lovely technique and couldn't help mixing it with other techniques so as to create beautiful, durable and comfy goods that are (oh so!) needed in our homes and clothing.

 

I strongly believe that everything handmade -with love, care and dedication-shine through and you can feel a special energy coming from them. Weaving for me is like a meditation state where you forget about everything and create a special connection with the threads and your loom. Nothing better than dismantling your loom and finally taking a look at your fabric. That awesome sensation that comes from being able to create something so beautiful with your own hands!

 

I am the hands behind VIR Textiles. Mi name is Virginia Goday, I'm from Uruguay, and some years ago I decided to leave my  career in Economics in the pursuit of a dream. I took different courses on interior and textile design, the most significant for me was one held by the "Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes" in Mexico City where I fall in love with looms. I haven't stopped weaving ever since... My loom and I enjoy a pretty healthy and ever lasting relationship.

 

It's been 10 years since I left my country and after some comings and goings, I chose to come back to my roots and settle VIR Textiles studio in the beautiful land of Uruguay.

 

This project is my way to help creating a more conscious, loving and eco friendly world.
